Born in 1966 in Utrecht, the Netherlands, I started mixing music in the 1980s, just like many others. I was greatly inspired by Ben Liebrand and his ‘In the Mix’. It was a time when I held many odd jobs on the side, which enabled me to buy two professional Technics SL1200 turntables, followed by a Revox tape recorder.
All my pocket money went into the purchase of 12 inch singles, as I was a frequent visitor of import record store ‘Kareltje’ in Utrecht. The Ferry Maat Soul Show was a prominent program, which had the latest new records, long before they reached the Top-40. I also had my own drive-in discotheque at the time.
Then I entered a new phase in my life and I sold all the 12 inch singles and equipment. What remained was my preference for music in general and dance music in particular. When Radio Veronica started broadcasting “Into the Groove” on Saturday evenings I tuned into the show regularly. Next to the obvious Ben Liebrand, Into the Groove-creator Martin Boer is my great example where mixing is concerned.
Then came the MP3 and soon after, the first MP3 mix software programs, including MixMeister. MixMeister changed my life. The program gave me the opportunity to turn the ideas playing around in my head into some spectacular mixes.
In the summer of 2009 I started making a weekly weekend mix, named the: “Thank God It’s Weekend Mix”, simply because I take great pleasure in doing this, but especially to entertain dance music enthusiasts domestically and abroad!
After a period in which I had a lot of fun mixing records from others, I also started on making my own productions in 2014. In the studio built for this purpose, the first production is made using Ableton software and the aim is to come out with it in 2014.
